History

The species was first recorded in South Africa but are native to Mexico, Central America, South America, and the West Indies. Callisia roots from the Greek word “kallos” meaning beauty. While Repens is from the Latin “repe” meaning creep alluding to the crawling habit for the stems. The Turtle Vine can be found in disturbed areas (squander regions and side of the road), riparian territories, auxiliary woods, and shrublands in tropical and warm mild areas. This plant likewise develops as a nursery plant as well.

Care guide

This Turtle Vine for sale in Manila thrives best in bright indirect sunlight but can tolerate direct sunlight. They like their soil well-drained and moist. Therefore, the watering schedule can be once to twice a week. Although if you plan to place them in direct sunlight, much frequent watering may be needed to keep the soil moist. Make sure that you water evenly and that the excess water drains at the bottom of the pot.

A sign of an underwatered Turtle Vine is curling leaves, pale or yellowing in color, and lack of new growth. While an overwatered plant will have yellow leaves at the bottom, and rotting stem or roots.

Propagation

The easiest method to propagate the Turtle Vine is to utilize 2 to 3-inch stem cuttings. Choose healthy and established stems, cut below a node, and remove the leaves at the bottom. Place the cuttings where you wish to develop the plant – water or soil. When kept moist in soil and placed in a bright shaded area, the cuttings will flourish, and new leaves will start appearing in a couple of days.
