History & Health Benefits

Origanum vulgare is the botanical name for Italian Oregano, a herb native to the Mediterranean region and western Asia. Used for over 2,500 years, oregano was considered sacred by the ancient Greeks and Romans — its name literally means “joy of the mountains” in Greek. It spread across Europe and eventually reached the Philippines through trade and colonial influence, where it is now enjoyed both as a culinary and medicinal herb.

This herb for sale in the Philippines is packed with nutritional value. Italian Oregano contains Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Calcium, Iron, Manganese, and Fiber. It is one of the most antioxidant-rich herbs known, with powerful anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Studies show that oregano may help fight bacteria, support gut health, boost the immune system, and reduce inflammation — making it as beneficial as it is delicious.

Care Guide

This herb for sale in Metro Manila thrives in warm, sunny conditions — perfect for the Philippine climate. Place it outdoors where it receives direct sunlight for at least 6 to 8 hours daily. Italian Oregano prefers well-draining soil and does not like to sit in waterlogged conditions, so allow the topsoil to dry slightly between waterings. Water once a day, or when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Avoid overwatering as this is the most common cause of root rot in oregano. Harvest regularly by pinching stems just above a leaf node to encourage bushier, fuller growth.

Propagation

Snip a 4-inch stem just below a leaf node, making sure the stem has not yet flowered. Remove the leaves from the bottom 2 inches and place the stem in a glass of water in a bright, sunny spot. Change the water weekly or whenever it looks cloudy. After 2 to 4 weeks — or once the roots reach about 2 inches long — transfer to a pot with well-draining soil and place in direct sunlight. Your Italian Oregano will be ready to harvest once it reaches 6 to 8 inches tall!
