Description

Chocolate Mint herb is a very fragrant herb. It’s also known as Mentha x Piperita ‘Chocolate’. It has thick dark purple brownish stems. With its plant parent being Peppermint, they somehow have a similar taste. This one grows its stems rapidly so be ready to contain them!

History & Health Benefits

The Mint family originates from Europe, Africa, and Asia. Some people say they could recognize its chocolate flavor. While others say it’s just regular spearmint. Some believe it’s the aroma where you can detect its chocolate. A reason for this is that there’s no chemical compound found in this herb that explains the chocolate flavor.

This herb for sale in Manila contains Vitamins A, C, and B9, Potassium, Manganese. They also have antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. You can include this herb in any dessert recipe with chocolate such as cookies! It’s also a great addition to your hot chocolate or tea, or a substitute for minty cocktails.

Care guide

This outdoor plant in the Philippines thrives best under direct sunlight. While it can also survive in partial shade, it’s best to let them be exposed to full sun where they can enjoy optimum growth. Watering is normally done once every day, however, it can be watered two to three times a day on a hot weather. This herb likes its soil moist, and won’t tolerate dry conditions. Make sure that the water drains at the bottom of the pot when watering as well.

Propagation

When propagating this outdoor plant in Manila, you can cut at least 8 cm of a top stem under a node. Remove any of the lower leaves on the stem if necessary.  Afterwards, place the stem cutting/s in water, and don’t forget to change the water once a week or when needed. Once it has developed a root system over a couple of weeks, the herb can now be potted into the soil.
