Description

Tineke Rubber Tree has a mix of ruby, white and green foliage. This plant has a sophisticated thick, leather-like and oval shaped leaves that is perfect on adding an accent to your homes.

History

Ficus Elastica originated from India and Indonesia. Belonging to the Moraceae family, its latex was used to make rubber before synthetics were invented. They produce milky, latex substance which is a main component in making rubber. There are also other plants that contain isoprene that is used to make rubber but the FIcus Elastica is only one of the few plants that contain enough in their latex sap.

Care Guide

This Tineke Rubber Tree for sale in Manila thrives best bright indirect sunlight. They can tolerate medium light settings, but expect slow growth and lighter foliage. Therefore, if you’d like to maintain its elegant dark color, place them in a bright spot in your home. But make sure not to expose them to direct sunlight as this might damage its leaves. Rubber Trees also like to slightly dry out in between waterings. So suggested watering schedule is once a week or when the soil is halfway dry already. Make sure that excess water drains at the bottom of the pot to prevent root rot.

Propagation

Propagating this indoor plant in Manila can be done through leaf and stem cuttings. With leaf cuttings, make sure to cut in between nodes to include them. Nodes are crucial as this is where rooting will take place. Although optional, you can dip your cuttings in rooting hormone. Choose your medium of propagation between water and soil. If you chose soil, make sure to keep the plant moist and humid. You can put them inside a resealable plastic bag to maintain humidity. But take it out every now and then as well. With a more matured plant, you can use at least 6 inches of stem cuttings with the same procedure. Just cut right below the node and remove the leaves at the bottom.
