Description

The Rhapis Excelsa, commonly known as Lady Palm, grows with multiple stems, with ribbed leaves that split fan-like. They are easy to care for and perfect for indoor placement because it is extremely tolerant of low-light environment. Under those circumstances, it will easily fit near bright windows. Also, it grows at a slow rate and could get a foot taller in a year.

History

Lady palm is a palm family member native to China, where it thrives in damp mountain forests. During the 17th century, Japan imported palms from China and it has then been spotted in Europe and America. It was also then became a prized ornamental in the Far East. Lady palms in Japan were planted throughout the palaces of military commanders because it was said to fend off those with harmful schemes. Rhapos in Greek means ‘needle’, thus, referring to its pointy leaves.
