Description

The Tradescantia Zebrina is commonly known as the inch plant. It has green and purple leaves with touches of silver, while the underside of the leaf is dark purple or magenta. Adorned for its beautiful shining foliage, it is a very popular houseplant that trails fast. This hanging plant in Manila will surely brighten up the spaces in your balcony or the corner spaces in your room.

History

This indoor plant in Manila is local to the tropical climates of Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean. Their habitat includes forests, disturbed areas, plantations, and orchards.  Some spiderwort plants are poisonous weeds, while some are valued as nursery plants. And a few, similar to Tradescantia zebrina is developed principally as indoor houseplants. At present, it’s currently available in Australia, different Pacific islands, Tanzania, and east and southeast Asia.

Care guide

This Tradescantia Zebrina “inch plant” in Manila is fairly easy to care for. With minimal effort, this indoor plant can trail and be lush in no time. They thrive best in bright to medium indirect sunlight to receive optimum growth. When their color starts to fade, it may be a sign that your plant isn’t receiving enough sunlight. This indoor plant also likes its soil moist. So watering schedule can be once to twice a week should be enough. Make sure that the top 1 to 2 inches of the soil is dry already before watering.

Propagation

The easiest method to propagate the Tradescantia Zebrina is to utilize 2 to 3-inch stem cuttings. Choose healthy and established stems, cut below a node, and remove the leaves at the bottom. Place the cuttings where you wish to develop the plant – water or soil. When kept moist in soil and placed in a bright shaded area, the cuttings will flourish, and new leaves will start appearing in a couple of days.
