Description
The Asplenium Nidus, commonly known as Bird’s Nest Fern and locally as Dapo, have wavy rippled leaves that grow from the middle. Non-toxic and low maintenance, they are perfect indoor plants that add a beautiful pop of green in any environment. This plant is usually used to add accents indoor or gardens for additional tropical look. In the wild, it would usually be seen attached to trees because it takes shade from direct sunlight.

History
Dapo belongs to the Polypodiaceae family and originated from South East Asia, East Australia, and Hawaii . In Malaysia, the Dapo is non-toxic and is eaten by aboriginal tribes. They also use it for medicinal purposes to ease labor pains, pounded in water and used as medication for fever and many more. While in the Philippines, specifically in the Bicol region, it is believed to bring in wealth when planted near an entrance. Plus, its light green color symbolizes money and positive energy.

Propagation
Propagating this plant would require harvesting its spores. Spores are the lines of brown fuzzy spots on the underside of the leaves. Place them in sphagnum moss, or peat moss uncovered and bottom water them. Keep them moist by placing a plastic bag over it or by misting daily. Germination will start in about 2 to 3 weeks.
